From Derick

Greetings K-Way Jeppe members!

We had a great turnout for Coaches Clover run on Sunday – around 90 people ran/walked distances from 8k to 32k.
Some runners/walkers managed their first time finishes over various distances from 16 to 32km.  Well done to all those runners that competed either the Colgate or Sanlam virtual runs.  Was great to see everybody out training and wearing our kit. Thank you for the support!

We have received some communication from CGA and we are able to return to competing/organizing shorter running races as from November.  The issue is the limit of 500 athletes/officials etc at any event and of course quite a process in terms of following COVID protocols under lockdown level 1.  Based on these requirements I personally don’t see the clubs being able to put on road running events.

Jeppe Hatchlings – new start times/training days
The Hatchlings are now running at 05h00 weekdays on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday with distances 3/4k up to 7k.  Saturday runs stay at 06h00 with distances 6/8/10k.  The training is geared towards being able to finish the 5 in 10 challenge in December – 5k  per day over 10 days.  The Hatchling are the ideal group to get back into training from either “lockdown laziness” or injury – BE THERE!

JON PIMM – farewell walk/run Saturday 31st October 6am – 6k or 10k
Includes refreshments afterwards in the BH room.  Jon Pimm has been a Jeppe member for 34 years, and he and Beverley will be retiring to Swellendam in the Cape at the end of November.  Jon is a well-known member of Jeppe, whose running career includes 14 Comrades finishes with 3 silver medals, and more recently being an active member of the walking group.  Please join us next Saturday to wish him well in his retirement.

Saturday is also be “Halloween” so come dressed accordingly!

TEN 10
Our traditional 10km or 5km per day for 10 days. This will start on Tuesday December 1st and end on Thursday December 10th December.  This has become a great tradition at Jeppe and everyone really enjoys this final challenge/training before the start of the December holiday season.  Another event that will cater for all Schools and ability levels. Diarise the dates, with more details in terms of entries/routes/T shirts etc to follow.

PUB RUN
Saturday 12th December at Jeppe Quondam, with a different format to last two years. Details will be available soon.

October Spring training
Training continues this week Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 05h00 and Saturday at 06h00.  Tuesdays are “tempo Tuesday” and Captains can choose the tempo run and would suggest alternating between the various tempo routes we do.  Saturday runs as mentioned in our last email, will be different each week, with each School being responsible to putting the route together.  This weeks it will be the B School turn to arrange the route and distances will be between 10 and 20k.  Route will be circulated later in the week,

TUE 20 OCT– 05h00 – 10km – Captains choice of routes to include 4 to 5k of Tempo running
WED 21 OCT – 05h00 – 8/10km “recovery run” – Captains choice of routes
THU 22 OCT – 05h00 – 10km  – Captains choice of routes
SAT 24 OCT – 06h00 – 10 to 20km – B School to plan routes catering for various distances – Pat and Andy will be open as usual.

From Kim
I would like to start my portion of my email with a huge shout out to our Coach Derick for arranging the 4 x 8km clover leaf loops yesterday incorporating the virtual runs.  The seconding point at the club was absolutely amazing.  If you ever wanted to witness Covid compliance whilst seconding yesterday was the time to do it.  Everyone who took part had a great time albeit being as hot as anything.

To Greg and Talia Kilfoil congratulations on the birth of your daughter.  On behalf of the Committee and Members we wish you both everything of the best as you embark on this exciting journey of parenthood.
